Mr. Charudutt Chitrak has been a professional photographer in the fashion and advertising industry for many years and is considered one of the most sought-after and respected photographers in India.
He began his apprenticeship under Pradeep Dasgupta, a renowned figure in Indian photography. Under Pradeep's mentorship, Charudutt expanded his perspective on photography, despite focusing on advertising. He encouraged his assistants to broaden their vision by engaging in street photography, a practice he regularly followed himself. This approach led him to establish two distinct branches in his work: his personal photography, centred on street and people, while maintaining a successful professional career in fashion and advertising.
Since then, his work has been featured in leading fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, and Cosmopolitan. He has also created advertising campaigns for major brands like Coke, BMW, Bacardi, Philips, and Airtel, collaborating with renowned agencies such as O&M, McCann, JWT, Dentsu, and BBDO to name a few. In addition to working with celebrities from the film, fashion, and sports industries, he has contributed to coffee table books and museum exhibits.
Despite making a name for himself in the advertising and fashion worlds, his passion for art and street photography remains unwavering. His involvement in projects like Samsara, Valley of Flowers, and the photo essay on the Nirankaris reflects his deep commitment to artistic photography.
Charudutt was also commissioned to shoot extensively for the Nirankari Museum in Delhi, undertook an in-depth project on the Nirankari community. Moreover, he worked on a book titled If I Were Rain for an NGO, where he documented the lives of street children over several months, gaining a profound understanding of their circumstances, further highlighting the depth of Charudutt’s work in social and art photography which he admires.
